Named after Elias Ashmole, the man who’s collection originally formed the basis of the museum, the Ashmolean has recently reopened after a period in which it was closed for refurbishment. Today the museum provides a modern yet classic exhibition space for a wide variety of artistic and historical objects. Highlights include the Alfred Stone, the death mask of Oliver Cromwell and the largest collection of Minoan objects outside Crete.
