Arbeia Roman fort once  guarded  the entrance to the river Tyne, helping to maintain Roman rule in the north of England and supporting the advance in to Scotland. Excavations of the original buildings combine with reconstructions of what the fort would have looked like nearly 2000 years ago to produce a fantastic insight in to military life in Roman Britain.
