Once the home to Augustinian monks, the Abbey was dissolved during the reformation bringing to a close over 400 years of monastic life on the site. The land on which the abbey sat was owned by the Parker family who soon began to transform the abbey in to a manor house. When the house was bought in 1926 by Lord Fairhaven and his brother they set about transforming the house in to the perfect spot for entertaining guests. Today’s visitor gets the best of both worlds, able top soak up the atmosphere of the medieval abbey and the  exuberance of the 20th century country home.
