Belton has been described as the most complete example of an English country house, supported by the fact that the symbol depicted on brown roadside signs used to denote a country house is based on Belton’s facade. The manor is surrounded by extensive parks and woodlands that was once a 1000 acre deer. park. During World War 1 the manor was home to the Machine Gun Corps, to be succeeded by the RAF Regiment for the duration of World War 2.
